Melatonin is the hormone the body produces in the evening to induce sleep. As a supplement, it primarily helps with a disrupted sleep-wake rhythm, such as jet lag.
Common uses
- For jet lag or a disrupted rhythm
- Short-term support for falling asleep
Dosage & use
A low dose (0.5–1 mg) shortly before the desired sleep time is usually sufficient; more is not better.
Cautions
May cause daytime drowsiness. Consult a doctor for children, pregnancy, and medication use.
